Dive trip to the Maldives 2011 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gunnar
Manta at Lankan Bearu What would you expect from a dive trip to the Maldives in low season? A lot of rain, low visibility, strong winds and waves? Well, it can be very different, as we could see on our recent dive trip. Two Mantas on the first dive raised our expectations, and we were not disappointed.

On the "Eagle Ray" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gunnar
Image The "Eagle Ray" is one of two liveaboards run by the Maldives Boat Club. It offers 7 double cabins, all with A/C and their own bathroom. Diving is done from a Dhoni that is constantly following the liveaboard, which does not just mean more petrol for the engines and more work for the crew, it also means that you do not hear any compressor on the liveaboard itself! We got 15-liter tanks without extra charge but no Nitrox, at least there was none during our trip. Maybe it will be available in the future.

Our guides Ismail (Isse) and Buka showed excellent knowledge of all divesites we were visiting and gave an excellent service. All the crew members were very helpful, and especially the kitchen chef managed to surprise us every single day. The food was just delicious.

Eriyadu Island PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gunnar
Image Eriyadu Island is located in the north west of the North Mal Atoll, which makes it easily accessible by boat from Male. Surrounded by beaches, it offers large and comfortable double bungalows, and no matter where you are, it is just a few steps into the water. I can't say much about other islands and resorts in the Maldives, but reports say, that Eriyadu still has the atmosphere of the old times, and people like it for that. No water bungalows, just a restaurant, a bar and a dive center, and that's it. Sure, if you are looking for a budget place you might have to go somewhere else, either stay in a hotel in Male or choose another destination. Check their offers regularly and you might find good bargains in low season.

Eriyadu has an excellent house reef, and many divers find everything they expect from their dive holiday on this reef. Besides there are also daily boat trips to other dive sites around, and the North Male Atoll has to offer some of the best dive sites in the Maldives.
